Suddenly the Mail app is really slow using my gmail account. Have spent several hours with tech support today but no fix. Has anyone else got this problem?

Gmail uses numerous servers, so Gmail working for somebody doesn’t mean it’ll work for somebody else.
Are connections to the Gmail webmail running at normal speeds here?
Any VPNs installed? Tried removing those add-on VPN apps entirely, if so?
What have (Google? Apple?) tech support tried, and what happened?
What else have they suggested, that you haven’t tried?
Is the mail app running at full speed with other not-Gmail mail servers?

Tried deleting the gmail account several times; deleting the Mail app a couple of times; ensuring iOS version is the latest; ensuring location setting okay and time zone correct; ensuring no VPN exists; reset network settings; connecting to the internet via Wi-Fi, mobile data and personal hotspot.
My other mail account (BT) seems a bit quicker but it is a very small account so I’m not sure if that’s relevant.
My wife has an iPhone and her Mail app, also using gmail seems okay. I sent a mail to her and she got it straight away.
Even re-installing the gmail account into the Mail app goes really slowly.
I have now downloaded the gmail app as a work round and that works fine.
Have removed the only VPN installed (don’t use it anyway).
Not sure what you mean by ”Gmail webmail running speed”? If I go to my gmail account on Safari it works okay and also on the Gmail app.
