I am trying to erase an old iPhone for my son to use. the problem is every time I do the restore on my Mac with sequoia it still asks for passcode. which I dont have.
so its impossible to get into the phone.
the restore is supposed to erase passcode and go straight to hello but it isn't,
has anyone been able to fix this? im pretty sure its an iPhone 12 or 13.
getting frustrated.

You need to use Recovery Mode which is subtly different from erase.
