Screen issues on iPhone 13 Pro Max after iOS 26 update

Before updating to iOS 26 on my iPhone 13 Pro Max, I'm concerned about potential screen problems. The previous update caused my screen to turn white unexpectedly, and I want to avoid a repeat.

Has anyone else experienced screen issues (white screen, flickering, etc.) after installing iOS 26 on the iPhone 13 Pro Max?

Any advice or feedback would be appreciated before I proceed with the update.

Yeah man, I’ve had iPhones since the 3G, and I’ve gotta say that this update has put me off ever going forward with a new version right away. This has not exactly bricked my phone, but iOS 26 has definitely ruined it to the point of making it unusable. My cameras no longer work, my frame rate has dropped to about 10fps, and apps are constantly crashing - ones like “messages” and “settings”. This is absolutely the worst update they’ve had; not to mention my Apple TV and iPad are also now bugging out. On my phone, it now says that I don’t have Apple genuine parts installed, even though my phone has never been repaired and worked absolutely fine in iOS 18. I’m not the only person reporting errors with this update, and even after waiting for the 26.1 update my issues not only persist, but are noticeably worse. On the phone with Apple support and after escalation they let me know that it’s a problem they’re aware of with my model - 13 Pro Max - and that there’s nothing they can do but wait for another software update. So, now, I get to upgrade to a 17 Pro Max and hope for the best.

Hi Mac Jim ID,

Thanks for your feedback! I totally understand the cycle of reactions to updates. However, my concern is more about potential screen issues, specifically the white screen and flickering problems I experienced with the previous update.

Has anyone who updated to iOS 26 on the iPhone 13 Pro Max experienced similar screen issues (white screen, flickering, etc.)? I’m wondering if these problems have been addressed or if they’re still occurring. Any insights on that would be really helpful before I decide to update.

Thanks again!

That indicates you have not updated iOS 26 yet.

Was your device Jailbroken? If that's the situation, please be informed that attributing the issues to iOS updates may not be accurate.

I have been updating my devices ever since I bought my first device in 2009. iPhone 3Gs, 4S, 5, 6, SE (1st Gen), 7, 8 and iPhone 12 Pro, iPad Pro, iPhone 13, Macbook Air 2019, MacBook Pro 16"

I never had any issues with any iOS, iPadOS, or macOS updates to date.

I would personally recommend everyone update their devices instead of listening to rumors from people who may not have kept their devices free from any spurious software.

iOS / iPadOS devices cannot be hacked or infected with Virus / Malware / Spyware if it is updated to the latest iOS/iPadOS unless you have intentionally downloaded spurious software or unauthorized apps directly from the internet and installed them on your device or/and have Jailbroken

iOS updates generally aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. Issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

This seems purely coincidental so please check the Setting on your device.

You can go back to around sept 20 or so when my phone issues started after installing the IOS 26 update on my 13 ProMax. You will read high-ranking reviewers not being helpful. Yet almost 3 months later there are still problems with people doing this update. My solution was to reset my phone 3 times…..the final time being a total wipe and reinstallment of the contents. It took me several weeks to bring back contacts, folders, calendars and photos. Yes I had a good backup. This new update does not allow more than 8 apps to show with carplay (including Imessages) on a brand new vehicle. I had many more than this prior to the update. I am still realizing things how my phone was changed but one can’t go back to any earlier IOS. Its ludicrous that apple still denies there aren’t problems with the install and iphone 26 update and the iphone 13 promax. What a nightmare this has been. bTW, it was not a screen issue turning to different colors but it seemed like anything else was affected. I am still using my phone.

This last update is HORRIBLE! I have a 13 ProMax as well and not only did it make my camera unusable, all of my icons on my home screen have disappeared. They were there yesterday, until the evening. When I went to bed and plugged it in,I noticed the Home Screen had reset itself somehow and even the background was changed! I turned it off for the night, hoping it would fix itself, but no. Turned it on this morning and it’s the same. No widgets, and no icons.

That is not an iOS26 problem, and extremely unlikely, something maybe has happened to your hardware. Had you tackled it yesterday you maybe could have reset it to factory and restored day before yesterday's backup, but if auto backup is on that may not be available any more.

Try a forced restart https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/force-restart-iphone-iph8903c3ee6/ios

Also swipe through your home screens, are you on a blank home screen?

Settings, first page, is that your name?

My Iphone 13 screen turned red, green, black after update to IOS 26 , and now apple is saying its a screen issue and you need to change the screen. I spoke to the advisors on apple support and they say that 13 series phone does not have a software update issue whereas if we check the forum there are so many of them facing the screen issue .

Apple are correct. Hardware, like screens, that are 3,4,5, years old can be failing and the stress of an update can be the proverbial last straw.

You can get a new screen fitted or consider upgrading to iphone 16 or 17
