Double accent or apostrophe on vowels in Google Docs/Sheets/Forms/Slides

When I go to Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides, even in the search bar, I type an accent, tilde, or apostrophe, and it appears twice.

Example: “óó,” when it should only be “ó” once. This happens with all vowels.

  • I have the language set to Latin American Spanish, and before installing Mac Tahoe, I didn't have this error.

  • I tried other browsers such as Google Chrome, and what happens in Safari doesn't happen there. Everything works perfectly in Chrome. I even tried the Brave browser, and everything is normal.

  • It should be noted that this language is configured throughout.

  • Everything is updated to the latest version.

Temporary solution as read in Reddit:

# Issue

When using accented characters on websites like Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Notion, Slack, and others in Safari 26.0 (21622.1.22.11.14), the characters appear duplicated.

# Fix

  1. Open Safari’s settings (Command + ,).
  2. In the Advanced tab, enable Show features for web developers.
  3. Go to the Developer tab and under Compatibility, turn on Disable site-specific quirks.
  4. In the Feature Flags tab, make sure Correct key event ordering with composition events is disabled

Same thing happened to me today.

Started using Google Docs with Safari (using Greek-Ελληνικά keyboard) and when I insert an accent it adds the vowel two times (ex. ίί)

Everywhere else is working as intended.

I even added an external bluetooth keyboard (Corsair K100) in order to pinpoint the problem. Turns out it is just Safari while writing on Google Docs/Sheets etc.

Used Mozilla Firefox in order to get the job done without frustrations.

Using MacBook Air 13' M4 with the latest OS (Tahoe 26.0)

On the other hand, my partners MacBook Air 13' M1 with Ventura 13.4.1 works fine.
