apps only shows standard apple apps macos tahoe

previously when you had launchpad, you could see all the apps (including the ones that you downloaded). But with the new "apps", it only shows me the standard apps that come downloaded with the device. Apps that i have downloaded arent in here, but when i search them on spotlight, i can open them.

I like my devices clean, so only the apps i use on a regular basis are in the dock. Games for example, i opened from the launchpad. I know i have trouble with remembering things that are out of sight, so this is inconvenient for me.

Furthermore i had moved all the apps i wasn't ever going to use to the second page of launchpad, so i didnt have to see them, but now they are as prominent as other (more useful) apps like calender.

How do i fix this?

MacBook Air 15″, macOS 26.0

Try rebuilding the spotlight index.

Spotlight is one of the core, foundational technologies of modern macOS. Unfortunately, it's also one of the flakiest.

Here's one thing to try. In the Finder, manually locate one of your 3rd party apps, ideally one that starts with one of the first letters of the alphabet. Launch the app. Then quit it.

Now try the "new" Launchpad/Spotlight. Do you see the app? If so, that's the fix. You'll need to manually launch all of your apps to re-register them with the operating system.

I've encountered this problem myself. I don't know what causes it.

I never used Launchpad, or the Dock, but that is because I know the names of the applications, so Spotlight it is... for me :-)

In your case, a possible alternative is to add folders to the right side of your Dock.

Make two folders, say Apps1 and Apps2 (though you can figure out better names than those), and fill them with aliases of the applications, as you want them organized. Add these two folders to the Dock.

(Cmd) + spacebar  will invoke Spotlight

Mouse over A for Applications or ⌘ + 1

Mouse over second icon for Files or ⌘ + 2

Mouse over third icon for Actions or ⌘ + 3

Mouse over fourth icon for Clipboard or ⌘  + 4

Using the ⌘ + 1 in may case >> Applications

It brings up a host of applications that came pre-installed with macOS 26 Tahoe and other Third Party Applications like “Ad and Stuff “ / Carbon Copy Cloner / Etrecheck Pro, Firefox etc etc.

Agree, Launchpad may have been useful in its day

It seems Apple has decided in macOS 26 Tahoe.

To expand the functionalities of Spotlight to include that which Launchpad has been doing

Launchpad was first introduced in Mac OS X Lion, which was released in 2011. It brought an iPhone-like "home screen" experience to the Mac, allowing users to see and organize all their installed applications in a grid-based interface.

The lines between iOS and macOS are becoming more buried with each newer versions of both operating systems

You should give it a try. Once you get used to it, it's pretty great.

especially if you don't know the names of the apps until you see the icons in front of you...

Arrange aliases of all the apps you're likely to be using in subfolders in a folder called "My Apps" or something. Label the subfolders however makes sense to you. Put that folder on the desktop or, even better in my opinion, in the dock. Will it take 10 minutes? Sure but once it's done, it's done. At least until you add another app.

The new app function in Tahoe is especially annoying for those that don't know the names of all your apps rendering the new apps function useless to me... forces you to open applications and search if it is not a standard apple app.. unfortunately I had all my apps properly grouped before and now I am searching in a really time consuming way... I don't use spotlight. and should have the option not to. especially if you don't know the names of the apps until you see the icons in front of you...
