Pop Up Windows Will Not Resize on Mac

You can try Relaunching the Finder on the fly—

>Force Quit>Finder>Relaunch

no resolve ro trouble shoot further you can:

—A SafeBoot Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled temporarily.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

This test will tell you if third party interference; most extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

unplug all non-essential peripherals when testing

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

all known to cause issues on the macOS

Does it help if you adjust the column widths? Turn off/on the Sidebar? Change the screen resolution (at least temporarily) so that the whole window fits, and maybe then can change its size?

Try dragging from the bottom left corner, that is seen to be still onscreen.

This will shring the popup window from both sides.

Alternatively, try reducing the size of the containing window.

I have not seen this with Tahoe, but with prior versions of macOS a workaround was to go to System Settings > Displays, select a 'larger' (lower resolution) size, then go back the your regular setting.

Yes same since I upgraded to Tahoe. It's making me crazy too. I dont need my pop up windows to take up the whole width of the screen when I try to attach a file to something. For me, I've only noticed this issue when I'm trying to attach a file. If I go into Finder, I can adjust that window fine. But for example, if I try to add a file here on this site, the pop up window is huge! I just want to make it a small square.

This is exactly what's happening to me as well since I upgraded to Tahoe. I can't resize the width of the window and I can confirm it's happening when trying to upload a file. Jeez it's really annoying!

I hope Apple will fix this in a future update.

I have the same problem and now it's messed up!

just moves it horizontally and vertically. so it can get wide or skinny. wont go diagonally cant turn the rectangle into a square

This is what happened to me. Except, it’s wider than that! I had to drag it but can’t drag pop up itself but the browser window and it just goes with it.

adjusting the column widths didnt help me... it just moved the empty space to one end or the other.
