What you’re describing—seeing only the “grid” in Apple Maps and Find My—is almost always a rendering or data issue, not a problem with your account. Since you’re on a brand-new iMac M4 with Tahoe, it’s possible the Maps framework hasn’t properly cached the map data yet or something in the setup didn’t complete. The fact that both Maps and Find My show the same behavior points to the map engine itself rather than your iCloud account or device settings.

See if the following can help::

  • Maps relies heavily on Apple’s servers for tile data. If you’re behind a firewall or using DNS filtering, try disabling those temporarily to see if tiles load.
  • Open Maps, zoom in/out a few times, or search for a location to force-refresh tile downloads.
  • Create a new macOS user profile and open Maps there. If it works, the issue is tied to your user profile data and can often be fixed by signing out/in of iCloud.
  • Sign out and back into iCloud – Go to  > System Settings > Apple ID, sign out, restart, then sign back in.

I’m experiencing the same problem: no grid on maps after updating to Tahoe. Sometimes the grid appears at the location I’m at, but when zooming in or out on other areas, the grid doesn’t show. I’ve tried most things—such as signing out, using another account, etc.—but nothing seems to work. It looks like the last resort might be reinstalling macOS 26.

Has anyone found a way to get it working properly?
