How to get around error code 8062? Thx!

Why does error code 8062 happen, and how to get around it?? I'm backing up data from a MacBook Pro (2019, Sequoia 15.6) to an external SSD (Samsung T7 Shield). Thanks!

"Error code 8062 on macOS typically indicates a problem with file permissions, disk format, or a cloud-synced file that hasn't fully downloaded. To fix it, ensure cloud files are fully downloaded, try a different format for USB drives (like exFAT or APFS instead of FAT32 for larger files), use Disk Utility to verify and repair the disk, or check your Mac's system and file permissions

Common Causes

  • Cloud Sync Issues:
  • Files stored in iCloud Drive or Dropbox may not be fully downloaded when you try to copy them, causing the error.
  • File System Limitations:
  • Older USB drive formats like FAT32 have a 4GB file size limit, which can cause errors when copying larger files or folders.
  • Corrupted Files or Disk:
  • Corrupted files or issues with the disk's file system can trigger the error.
  • Permission Problems:
  • Your macOS user account may not have the necessary permissions to access or move the files you are trying to copy.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Complete Cloud Downloads: If copying from a cloud service like iCloud Drive or Dropbox, ensure that all files in the folder have a fully downloaded status (no cloud icon) before you attempt to copy them.
  2. Check USB Drive Format: If the error occurs when copying to a USB drive, reformat the drive with a more capable format like exFAT or APFS, which don't have the same file size limits as FAT32.
  3. Use Disk Utility: Open Disk Utility (found in Applications > Utilities) and use the First Aid function to scan for and repair any errors on your hard drive or external drive.
  4. Check Permissions: Resetting your Mac's permissions and checking the permissions on the folder or drive you are copying to can resolve the issue.
  5. Use a New Folder: Try creating a new, empty folder and copying the files into that new folder instead of the original destination.
  6. Copy in Smaller Increments: If the error persists when copying a large folder, try copying the files within the folder in smaller groups to see if a single large file is causing the problem.
  7. Restart Your Mac: A simple restart can sometimes resolve temporary glitches or resolve permission-related issues.
  8. Contact Support: If the issue continues after trying these steps, contact Apple Support Community for further assistance, as it may indicate a deeper system or hardware issue.
