apple configurator: how to create a profile? empty payload bar!!

I am trying to create a profile for my Iphone with apple configurator, Version 2.18 (10A23), on a MacOS Tahoe 26.0

The problem is that when creating a profile, the left bar is empty, so I can edit the general profile description, name, etc, but I am unable to add any payloads.

I created several profiles in the past, several years ago, when the app was named "apple configurator 2", but that one is missing now, and I am unable to edit any of these old profiles, same problem with them, I see the general profile description but empty left bar.

How is this supposed to be done?
