Can I stop my users resetting their iPad?

Hi All,
Im an IT administrator and Im looking at rolling out 500+ iPads into our corportate environment. Is there a way I can prevent my users from resetting their iPad back to factory settings thru the SETTINGS icon > reset. Ideally I would like to password protect the SETTINGS icon/section. What are my chances? Can this type of stuff be written as an app? Cheers

From what I can tell, NO.. Users can still reset the device back to factory settings, even if you have set a restricted profile. This appears to be a flaw!

What would be "nice" is if the configuration utility actually let you remove these options (as well as base applications, like Mail, etc). Then, in order to reset, you would have to remove the restricted profile, which CAN be password protected.

But that is NOT how it works.

Obviously, you live in the Windows world. 🙂 Seriously, don't worry about it. Even if they do so, it's kind of easy to restore. Just tell them not to do it. Most people are pretty mature about these things. And yes, I know what I'm talking about, I ran a company where we gave out Tablet PC's to sales reps to take orders. No one messed them up.

I too am looking for this feature for 48 iPads in a K-8 school district. No they are not for adults and no we cannot "just ask them not to do it". It would make life easier if there was much more control when using the iPhone Configuration Utility. Why enable restrictions and modified settings if someone can easily just reset everything to factory settings.

It would be just easier if there was some sort of password protecting the Settings icon. Even better would be allowing password protecting of a folder in which you can store all the icons/apps you don't want other users to use. So if your friend wants to use it you can store the settings and mail app in a folder and BAM your friend cannot access your personal email or reset it!
