Unable to change text/background notification appearance on iPhone 17 Pro lock screen

On my iPhone 17 Pro (current IOS 26) I have not been able to change the text/background notification appearance on the lock screen to the same black text/grey background that was the default on my iPhone 14 lock screen. No matter what changes I make to the Accessibility options, Dark Mode, Sleep Focus, I'm stuck with white text on a black or dark background. Am I missing something or is that appearance no longer an option?

First is current look on iPhone 17 and second is old iPhone 14 appearance. Should have said the old was black text on light grey. Even though the iPhone 17 screenshot only shows ESPN notifications, all notifications have the same white text on black background. Not specific to ESPN.
