Slow keyboard typing after iOS 26 update on iPhone

If you go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboards and Typing > Slow Keys > Make sure it's turned off.

Then try a Forced Restart, which is different from a soft restart done with the Power Off slider.

• Press and quickly release the Volume Up Button
• Press and quickly release the Volume Down Button
• Press and hold the Side Button until you see the Apple Logo

This was driving me nuts and I turned off the “Key Repeat” in accessibility > keyboard. Which fixed it. It was slowing down my typing so much. I’d rather make the occasional typo than type one letter per second. I have the iPhone 13.

YEEEESSSSS!! Finally this actually worked!

It’s still slow/clumsy but at least useable again!

Things that didn’t work:

Forced restart

Reset keyboard dictionary

Turning off haptics/sticky/slow keys

All the other things!

Turning off key repeat in accessibility sorted it…mostly!

Enable the key preview: Settings > General > Keyboard > Character Preview

Regarding the lag, for me it's always been there. People had some luck by disabling Slide to Type and Predictive Text. But it's a bit weird for Apple to finally introduce a feature, just for it to be laggy so you're forced to disable it.

You can also try Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary.

Or you need to reinstall iOS 26 again, make sure the correct system is running.

To reinstall or clean install iOS 26, the most effective method is to use a computer to "Restore" the device, which erases data and reinstalls the firmware. Back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer first, then use Finder (Mac) or iTunes (Windows) to select "Restore." Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

if you have haptics enabled, when this problem occurs again, try putting the phone in silent mode and see if you notice an improvement. I have the same inout lag that only occurs in browsers and for some reason, turning silent mode on fixes the haptics and keyboard response.

Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary.

That solved it for me.

Me too. After I updated my iOs to the iOS 26 I kept on having issues and delayed typing. I need to double tap send button before it went through. I need to retype my sentences and it’s not a good experience.

Having same issue. This may be the thing that makes me go from a lifelong iPhone user to android. I really don't want to, but all the constant lagging after updates , or just randomly, is insane for such an expensive product.

None of the suggested tools have worked. My storage is far from full. Nothing is running in the background. The keyboard lag is awful.

Hi, the number one thing I hate about my iPhone and i would switch to Android is how bad typing on my iPhone is, it has become so bad typing out a simple sentence is so annoying because there is a bug in OS26 that makes Texting on the iPhone a nightmare that Apple won’t fix because Apple has grown aggressively more interested over style and form instead of focusing on user experience, all of my friends have been saying the same thing and they are strongly considering moving over the Samsung Galaxy phones because it’s easier to type on, one example was someone on YouTube showing that the iPhone was inserting the wrong letter on the screen even so he typed the right letter on the keyboard and worse of all spelling checker is a joke it can not find the spelling off words when asked and gives you words that only exist in a medical dictionary. It’s about time Apple started Focusing on the little things instead of trying to sell more iPhones before they start losing even more users.

Still a problem in 2026. 😑 I’ve tried all the steps To fix this on my iPhone 13 Pro, Updated the software, Reset all the settings, Clear dictionary, Hard reset, Everything.

For some reason recently, both the keyboard and voice control have become terrible and unusable. Literally, unusually bad, slow and laggy. It’s worse than an android from 15 years ago It’s running so badly. Sometimes after reset, it’ll work for an hour or so, and then back to laggy texting freezing, Glitches, It’s horrible. I’m seriously about to switch to a Samsung phone because of this and I’ve been an iPhone user for the last 12 years. What did they do? I can’t use Siri it doesn’t understand a word I say, I can’t use voice to text. It doesn’t understand a word I say, I can’t type it barely functions. It’s becoming so frustrating. I want to throw my iPhone against the wall. And it’s not even an old phone, I had it fully replaced with my AppleCare just a few months ago!!!

Please, for the love of God fix this Apple!!!

I tried doing this twice and it didn’t do anything. Went back to keyboard and things. Same everything?

It’s literally not usa le to me, I need to write extremely slow on an iPhone 16 pro…

is it my impression or Apple is really becoming bad??
