iPhone keeps dimming after iOS 26 upgrade

After upgrading to iOS 26 I have noticed that my phone's display (iPhone 16 Pro) keeps dimming despite having the Automatic, Brightness, and Night Shift buttons all set to off. It's extremely annoying as I then have to open Settings and manually adjust the brightness again. What else controls this auto dimming feature on iOS 26?
