macOS 26 regressions: Finder Sidebar, network service order, Wacom input

With macOS 26 (Tahoe) several core workflows for professional users are broken:

  1. Finder Sidebar regression

    • Until macOS 25, disconnected SMB/AFP shares pinned in the sidebar could be remounted with a single click.
    • In macOS 26, sidebar entries only point to currently mounted volumes. Clicking a disconnected share shows an error dialog (“original item cannot be found”).
    • This change forces 4–5 clicks for what used to take 1, degrading everyday NAS workflows.
  1. Network service order ignored

    • System Settings → Network still allows prioritizing Ethernet over Wi-Fi.
    • However, on startup, network volumes mount over Wi-Fi even when Ethernet is first in service order.
    • Expected behavior: system should respect service priority and mount over Ethernet if available.
  1. Wacom tablet input bug

    • On macOS 26, Wacom tablets cannot reliably click on certain UI elements (System Settings panes, notifications, Calculator buttons).
    • The click is visually registered but no action is performed.
    • Same hardware and drivers function correctly on macOS 25.

Impact:

These are regressions. They break fundamental daily workflows in professional environments, not optional features. Please restore previous functionality and fix the bugs listed.

I wonder if this is the reason people are reporting issues mounting the NAS especially if their router's Ethernet & WiFi networks are on different subnets.

This is a bug you should be reporting to Wacom as well. It is actually up to Wacom to make sure their products work with the various operating systems they support. From what I've seen on this forum, Wacom has dropped the ball a number of times over the years.

Follow @neuroanatomist's suggestion by providing feedback directly to Apple since Apple doesn't participate in the Apple forums. We (the users) do appreciate your post here so we are aware of these particular issues (I had not heard about the network ordering issue you mentioned).

FYI, people should always expect things to break when a new major version of any piece of software is released. In fact, people should realize that it may take third party developers days, weeks, or perhaps even months & even years before they may release an updated version of their third party software that is compatible with a new major OS version. The time frame varies from developer to developer. While some developer's may test their software during Apple's beta OS period....others may decide to wait until after the new OS has been released before even testing their apps for compatibility.

Ideally people should wait at least until the first or second update patch has been released before attempting to install a new major OS upgrade to get the main launch bugs fixed. Even then, people should research their third party apps to make sure they are fully compatible before upgrading. People should even check out the reviews for the new OS to see whether macOS itself has changed in such a way that would affect your workflow (the loss of the LaunchPad is one great example it seems for many users). Also, testing the upgrade on a spare, less essential Mac is a good idea so you can perform your own tests, but it is also possible to test with an external USB3 boot SSD as well (not without some risk since the system firmware is updated and so are the essential hidden boot files on the internal SSD of the M-series Macs which are shared between all versions of macOS so it could potentially impact your older OS installation).
