Can't I login using Touch ID after updating to Sequoia 15.7.

Since updating to Sequoia 15.7, my 2018 Intel MacBook Pro is requiring me to input my password instead of using Touch ID. It will randomly allow me to login using Touch ID about 1 out of 20 times. Touch ID still works for passwords, cards, and everything else after I'm logged in. It only balks at the initial login from the Lock Screen. I have restarted, turned Touch ID off and back on, and deleted and re-added my fingerprint. Still no good. Any ideas?

Touch ID started hiding after 15.7 update. Installed 15.7.1 but still fubar. Come on Apple.

Still "fubar"? Not quite ... the Touch ID option is offered (for me at least) after a 5-7 second wait. Most people who have been affected by this seem to see that waiting several seconds results in the Touch ID option being offered, it just isn't offered right away.

Once in a while the Touch ID is NEVER offered which is due to the Mac being shut down or, after a certain amount of time (days), the password has to be entered, by Apple's design. That will not likely change. The 5-7 second time delay is something that I think Apple should fix but maybe won't since it causes no real harm and seems more prevalent on vintage or obsolete Macs.

”sometimes” may or may not be normal.

It has always been the case that your mac requires the password in some circumstances: always when you are not already logged in (as in after a restart or if you logged out from your account); and after a certain time has passed (not sure how much exactly).

It is thus unclear if there is really a problem. FWIW I am now on Tahoe and so far it seems to request the password about as often as every previous OS. I skipped 15.7, so I can’t comment on that version specifically.

Same login and usage as before the update to 15.7 here. It's not a hardware issue (maybe there was a firmware update I'm not aware of in the background).

After login and after my screen locks after 5 minutes or I lock it manually there is only a login field for the password to unlock. It does not even say "Your password is required to enable touch id ..." which yes sometime did happen after not using the macbook over the weekend or a day or two.

I am not logging out. My routine hasn't changed. Before, I'd dither momentarily press the power button to lock the screen or just close the screen, and when I'd return, it would only require Touch ID. It never required me to enter the password before unless I logged out or restarted. It has only been forcing me to enter the password since the update to 15.7.

same issue in my 2020 mbp 13" (Intel processor with Touch Bar, 16 Gb RAM, 512 Gb SSD - half full) after updating macOS sequoia to 15.7.1. I tried Stan1973's trick (Disabling/restart/enable Touch ID). Touch ID is working so far but wonder if the issue will come back as it did for him. Also, I find my laptop became very slow after updating to Sequoia from BigSur. Speed decrease is more noticeable when connecting laptop to 27" external USB-C monitor. It takes a minute to display graphics. Feels like the sluggishness is worse after updating to 15.7.1 - not sure if my hardware is too old but sequoia is likely not optimized for machines with Intel processors. I wonder if I'll have better performance downgrading to an earlier macOS like ventura or Sonoma. Would love some insight as I went strait to sequoia and never tried those older macOS - thanks!

Unfortunately it didn't take long for the slow Touch ID issue to come back :-( Although it only takes about 30-45 seconds for the Touch ID to show up, it is slow enough for someone with anxiety to hate it :-)

it almost looks like the system goes back and forth between users. I'm logged in as Admin and I can see the "standard" user icon pop in and out before making Touch ID available to unlock the Admin screen

It's not the end of the world but it'd be nice to fix this software glitch

It's something that not everyone experiences but for those who do, it's a "feature" and there is nothing the user can do to make it go faster. It seems to mostly affect older (vintage and obsolete) Macs, so I doubt Apple will prioritize this, and it has no real impact on the user. By the way, I measured 5-7 seconds (not 30-45 seconds) on my Intel 2019 MacBook Pro 16". If you can't wait 5-7 (or however many) seconds, just type the password.

Can't I login using Touch ID after updating to Sequoia 15.7.
