No notification sounds after new iOS 26 update on my Iphone

iPhone 16 Pro Max on 26.2. I "Reset All Settings" once and started getting audio alerts via Messages. That lasted about a day. Every thread in Messages is marked as muted. If I unmute a thread, I still can't get audio alerts that the person has sent me a Message. This is really messed up.

iPhone 14 here I have just come across this thread. Toggled the switch to silence phone finally have my message and phone notifications back.

Notification sounds only work on my iPhone 16 Pro Max when screen is locked if I turn off Wrist Detection on my Apple Watch. That's messed up.

Exact same issue since the update, i'm up to 26.0.1, iphone 13, occasionally alert sounds will be muted, the physical "silent" switch will still be in the forward position which is not muted, i have to toggle the switch back, which is mute, then forward again and it will unmute. Then randomly within 1-3 days it will do it again and go back to mute.

Is there such a thing as “downdating” back to 18 until they figure this out? I thought I waited long enough for obvious things to have been dealt with, but clearly not. I can’t have things like messages from my kids being randomly silenced.

Same problem on my iPhone 13 mini, after going from 18.7 to 26.

No ringtone, notification alert, startup sound DuoLingo, for instance. An odd collection.

Especially the no-sound ringtones make it URGENT!!!!

Same with iphone 15, none of the work arounds are working for text message sounds. Also on my husband's 13. Strange that all the "bells" on individual messages are turned off, yet when I remove the slash, it won't even show the text alert on the screen! This needs to be fixed.

Edit to add-I can hear alert if my screen is in use, but if not, no text sounds at all!

Same here w/ iPhone 13 Pro and iOS 26.0.1.

I can confirm what others have reported: that toggling sound mute switch on the side of the phone restores notification sounds, albeit only temporarily.

I might have missed it, but anyone noticed a pattern with what triggers the phone to go silent?

When I do eventually get the notifications working again, by toggling the Silent switch on and off. I have also noticed that the volume level of my notifications are very low but Music or Phone speaker is loud. I have always used the "Late Night" Settings, App, Music, EQ setting which always made the volume of the notifications loud. But this EQ setting in music has now been removed, and the new "Late Night" Settings, Accessibility, Audio & Visual is not there as some others have shown. I have been through all of the suggestions posted online. Notifications just stop working throughout the day, I am constantly hard rebooting, and toggling the Silent switch. (iPhone 13 Pro).

anybody know what's going on? seems like this one should have been fixed rather quickly since it's obviously very important for some people, do you think they are waiting to do an update to fix other issues? or do you think they haven't figured out what went wrong in the first place ? very curious.... i had to get in the habit of checking every morning when i turn my phone on, i hit one of the volume buttons and if i see the red mute, i toggle side switch back and forward again until unmuted, then it will stay working for the day, at least it seems that way with mine, the problem happens either on shutdown at night or power up in the morning... and i did submit a bug report already

that is a different issue than this topic, i do have that same problem tho, not getting message notifications on the lock screen, or even notification center, as soon as i unlock, i see the red number next to message app indicating message received.... but this thread is about the entire phone going into "silent" mode, maybe they are somehow related since they both started happening after the last update.i already started another thread about the issue you are described too, and i've submitted bug reports for both as well

I'm having the same problem. I have tried every fix I can find. Still no notifications for text messages. Apple made me update because I bought a watch. Said it couldn't work without os26. Thinking my best bet is to return the watch and go back to a different os. Very disappointing.

I’ve had a similar problem with my new 17pro. Sometimes I just do not get notified of texts received. I’ll open a text thread to text someone and see that they’ve sent me 5-6 messages that I was never notified about. Also, if I receive a message while the phone is unlocked and I’m using it, the banner shows up, but when I close the app I was using, there is no badge icon telling me of the unread messages received.

A new issue that appeared today, is that my wife tried to text me about 10 different times, got the blue line across the top as if it were a large media message (it was just plain text) and then the message just disappeared and never sent. No failed to send “!” or anything. Just vanished.
