MacBook Pro M4 is not connecting to external monitor after upgrading to Tahoe

After upgrading to macOS Tahoe 26.0, my MacBook Pro M4 is no longer connecting to my external monitor via USB-C. Previously, it was very convenient to charge and mirror the screen using just one cable. I can use an HDMI cable, but the experience is much worse, as I now need two cables - for charging and for display output.

I’ve tried different ports, using the “Detect Displays” button, and re-plugging the cable. Nothing works. This is definitely a regression. I’ve tested this cable with another laptop, and it works fine there. It also worked perfectly before I upgraded to Tahoe, so please don’t suggest buying a new cable.

The new macOS are increasingly fussy over sub-par cables for connecting external display.

Using high quality cables (certified ULTRA HDMI cables or PREMIUM ≤ 1.0 m length, USB-C cables rated for high-speed data is known to resolve the issue.

Best results the shorter the cable the better for Thunderbolt5 cables ≤ 0.5 m length
