iPhone 17 Pro front camera / faceID making a clicking sound

Hi!

every time face-ID is enabled I hear a clear "click" on my phone. Is not noticeable during the day as the surrounding sound is enough to mask it, but you can hear it clearly in a quiet space, for example, when reading stuff in bed at night. It is very noticeable on such conditions and kind of distracting, as every time I use faceID I hear it. Here a video showing the "click":

I didn't had it on any previous iPhone.

Does it also happen to you? Will this be fixed in future soft updates?

Many thanks!

Thanks! Issue is still there after re-start. The only way I have to avoid the click is when calling the face-id and front camera constantly. For example calling the camera, it makes click, close camera and quickly call it again… then it makes no click. But if I wait 5-10 seconds, the next time I call an app using Face ID it will do “click” again.

Looks like a hardware issue. 😥

It could be a hardware or software issue, and Apple can perform remote diagnostics to confirm operation. You can also schedule an appointment for an Apple Genius Bar.

Hi, I'm also having the same problem with Face ID and the camera. Here's a video showing what it sounds like when I open the camera:

Hi, I'm also having the same problem with Face ID and the camera. Here's a video showing what it sounds like when I open the camera:

It makes a clicking sound both for Face ID and when I open the iPhone's native camera and switch between the rear, front, photo, and video options.

We're not the only ones having this problem; there are forums online where people report this problem.

I contacted Apple by phone, and all they did was take a test, and it turned out there was no problem. The guy at Apple told me he would speak to the engineering department to learn more about this problem, and all he told me was that it was normal. I don't think this is a normal thing to happen. I can understand that the rear camera clicking is due to the OIS (optical image stabilization), but I'd like someone at Apple to respond to this.

I come from a 13 pro max and I have never had this sound, neither FaceID nor camera.

Here I'm going to leave a compilation video with all the clicking sounds I've been able to find on the internet and my own.

At first, I thought the click (more like a tick) came from the Face ID camera because I would hear it after Face ID is activated. Upon further inspection, the sound is coming from both the top and the bottom of the phone, where the speakers are located. I, like you, think it might be able to be fixed in software, but time will tell. This didn't happen on the iPhone Air I had, but it does on this base 17.

I’m experiencing the same issue. While I believe the click sound doesn’t originate from the camera module, but rather the speakers, the click can be heard from both the front and bottom speakers when my face ID is initiated.

I only hear it on the top speaker. While it could certainly be a software fix, I’m more inclined to think it’s RFI and it’s normal.
