iPhone 13 pro stuck on hello screen

After buying a second hand phone I started transferring from my old iPhone when prompted to update to ios26. This update stuck with a loading button at the bottom so I turned it off.

On turning it back on I get the 'hello' screen and a message to 'swipe up to unlock', when swiping up the pin entry appears for a second them disappears, locking me into the hello screen.

I have done a force restart (volume up, volume down, side button until apple logo) butt his just returns me to the same screen. I've tried wired connection to my macbook to no avail.

edit: the phone is also becoming hot

For anyone else stuck with this issue I managed to restore the device by;

Allowing the battery to completely run out
Charging from a wall
Following the hard reset instructions until in restore mode
Transfer from wall charging to Macbook
Following the restore instructions in Finder
Further note, during this process the phone would drop into the hello lock screen again and I would have to start over (three times). At one point the Mac wouldn't recognise the phone, restarting Mac resovled this.
