Exchanging iPhone 17 Pro Max for iPhone Air: Trade in credit and installment plan refund

I recently traded in my iPhone 16PM for an iPhone 17PM. I’m finding I don’t like the iPhone 17PM much and have evaluated my needs and think the Air is actually a much better fit for me. I didn’t use any “Pro” features on my last phone.

I purchased in store on launch day. I’m wondering if I walk into a store and ask to exchange the iPhone 17PM for the Air…

Will my trade in credit transfer over to the Air immediately?
I used my Apple Card to purchase the iPhone 17PM. How long does it take for the installment plan to cancel and be refunded to the card and made available to use again?

You can't exactly "exchange" it. You will do a full return. You should receive any credit in the form of a gift card which you could use toward the purchase of an iPhone Air. It may take a day or so for any charges to the Apple Card to be reversed. You'll see them quickly, but it can take time for the transaction to clear, just like when you make a purchase.
