Spotlight does not display Shortcuts (as before)

  • Issue
    • I cannot call up shortcuts directly in Spotlight as before. The shortcuts are not displayed.

  • Scenario
    • Prior MacOS26 I was used to very quickly create new reminders or Notes with Spotlight, by just searching for the shortcut name. For example, I opened Spotlight, typed "newrem" for a new reminder and pressed Enter. At present (with MacOS26) Spotlight no longer shows me any of the shortcuts after I enter their title. I know about the new options in Spotlight to search directly for e.g. Files, Apps aso. But I desire to stick with my few process steps. Open, type, enter.

  • Result
    • None

  • Question(s)
    • Is it by design that Spotlight can no longer search for shortcut titles easily and directly like prior?
    • Has anyone else experienced this with MacOS26 and, if so, how was it resolved?

  • Note:
    • I am intentionally asking the above questions and obviously ask not for “just any” knowledgebase articles that contain random steps for a possible hope -which I tried out already. Thank you for your understanding.

On Tahoe, open the Shortcuts application and locate the Shortcut that you cannot find in Spotlight. Double-click that Shortcut to open it for editing, and then click the i⃝ icon to open the Details. A new checkbox has been added: Show in Spotlight, and you want to check that. The Shortcut will autosave, and you can quit Shortcuts.

I don't know if you will then immediately find this Shortcut name in Spotlight, or if you need to log out and then back in.

I have this same issue. Because of dialabrain's response I thought it might be an issue with old (created pre update) vs new shortcuts, but even when I create a new shortcut, it doesn't appear in my spotlight search.

Interestingly when you press command-3 in spotlight to open up the actions section, it won't even find the actions listed as suggestions.

That is probably the core issue. It isn't finding any shortcuts or actions let alone our custom ones.

Your question kinda misses subject and object, thus.. 🤷🏼 . All my shortcuts in Apple Shortcut app have names. Prior MacOS26 I was able to reach them fastly by opening Spotlight, starting to type the shortcut Name and Enter. One example is the new reminder Shortcut named "newrem". Opening spotlight and putting that in activated the respective shortcut. If I now enter "newrem" I receive just a bunch of non-related stuff displayed. And that differs from time to time. What spotlight does under no circumstances: Just displaying the shortcut which is named like the search term, as prior.
