Unable to activate iMessage and FaceTime using registered phone number

I registered my phone number and received a text message, but it says "unavailable for iMessage and FaceTime." Where can I find it? What can I do?

Try activating your account online. Go to apple.co/IMFT-mac, then click 'Get Started' in the Enable Apple Account box. Sign in and follow the onscreen instructions.

If that doesn't work, try the steps in this article: If you can’t turn on or sign in to iMessage on your iPhone - Apple Support
