How do we remove descriptions from Safari Bookmarks side bark?

Frankly, I just want it to go back to the way it was. This was too big a change.

  • How we remove the too big recently saved images?
  • My default view was showing my favorites at top and open. But it seems closed when opening now.
  • How do with remove all the descriptions? I do not need a single one. Just the name of the web site, which I often shorten too.

This was too big a change with no way to go back or at least partly go back easily! Safari is a business tool and this change has slowed my business down. I have 28 folders in Favorites alone and 9 more folders at top level. I want Favorites Folders to be my top level, as it was before.

I agree fully! These bookmark descriptions only clutter up what was once a simple, clean way of using the bookmarks. A simple otion to use or not use would have been a simple solution.

C'mon Apple, you can give us that, can't you?

Version 15.7.2

if you update to 15.7.3, there is also an update for safari 26.2. after you update there is a simple menu for changing your preferences. you will find that menu at the top right of your safari sidebar.

and when you click the "three dots", you can select your desired options.

you are correct. on sequoia you will not find the "three dots" to change your bookmarks sidebar view.

but you do have a couple options.

the first option, you can lay a new sequoia install over the old one without completely erasing and reinstalling sequoia. afterwards, you will have sequoia with safari 18.6.

and the other option, you may want to look at 6x6's reply in this discussion. if you are comfortable using terminal, their suggestion fixes things for those of us on sequoia with safari 26.0.1.

Well, the fuzzy/out of focus all over decoration is an impediment to many disabled people, including me and defies all good design logic and Universal Design principles. The only device I have that got it — and now I am locked into it as it is now froze from backing out — is PadOS and it is truly awful to use with so much fuzz. Even more illogical is the notion that, those who operate a UI using dark mode, would want reflection at all? Makes no sense. It's dark.

IMO — and with a professional background spanning 35 years in design, graphic design, and user interface design — it is the probably the most poorly thought out OS UI change for them in years. But, I think they have figured it out and are backing out of it. Thankfully for us disabled people and many users a like.

So, I just downloaded macOS Tahoe 26.0.1. When I clicked on my favorites bar, all of them had descriptions. However, just to the right of my Favorites bar there is a circle with 3 dots (upper left hand corner on the screen) with 3 horizontal dots. I clicked on that and selected "compact" and it got rid of the description.

Thanks. 26 (and the messing up of Safari in 15) put the fear in me about being loosey-goosey about updates from Apple. So I decided to take a break and turn off all but security (my normal method anyways) before my Mac became unusable from the masOS 26 UI decorative disaster. So I will do this .3 updare and, then turn this descriptive junk nobody wanted off!

that is a good strategy. I leave mine set that way. I will usually check to make sure my hardware and software will still work BEFORE updating / upgrading.

while I agree this was an unfortunate update, I would not say that nobody wanted it. I'm guessing that it actually helps people that have some form of visual impairment.
