iPhone 15 Plus drains car battery after iOS 26 update

I have an iPhone 15 Plus that was updated to iOS26 when the update was available. I have a 2018 Chevy Spark LT1. I am notorious for using my phone hooked up to my cars USB port while the engine is shut off so I can continue to use the car speakers. I have never had an issue in the past with doing this but tonight I somehow managed to drain my car battery. I had to get a jump.

Now I know there have been many complaints about the battery issue with iOS26 but please tell me this isnt a coincidence. Thoughts?

How old is your car and does it have the original battery which came with the car? Car batteries don't last forever, just like all batteries don't last forever. I cannot think of any reason that IOS 26 has anything to do with your phone causing your car battery to drain. But I can certainly imagine that a car battery which could be failing, could easily be drained.

Do you have a back up of your iPhone that you made, just after the update? If so, restore form it, backing up first. If not, then take this as a learning experience, knowing to aways back it up prior to and after installing the update. That way, you can have something to before it from, should anything go wrong during or after the update process.

B. Perform a Restart:

Both before AND after installing Updates, you should always back up your device. After the update install, perform the rester. That way, everything it together, and synced form within the system. Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

C. Update your Car Stereo System:

See if there is a way to install firmware updates for your car's stereo --look in the driver's manual for such an option.

D. Report this to Apple:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of this, if you don't report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that this all began after installing an update. Include the URL of this thread
  4. Proceed from there as necessary
