I have a new iPhone 17 Pro and iOS 26. I have StandBy turned on and set to turn off automatically when the phone is not in use and the room is dark. I have Night Mode and Motion to Wake turned on.
However, the phone display turns on and does not turn off in the darkened room.
Any ideas on what other option is preventing this?

I have this issue too. I guess it started after updating to iOS 26. Before it worked well.
Solution given by Servant of Cats is wrong. Firstly - Standby mode and Always on Display settings are independant of each other.
Second thing - getting rid of one feature to make another work isn't reasonable solution.
