Screen not waking up, after Tahoe upgrade

Anyone else facing the same problem? Seems to have started after the MacOS 26 upgrade: both when on power or on battery, closing the lid and allowing the machine to go to sleep mode, it then does not wake up and a restart is needed. Interestingly, the caps lock led seems to work, i.e. keyboard is responding, but screen remains black!

Sequoia changed how the lid sensor (magnet + Hall effect sensor) reports its state to macOS which is the reason for the error. Putting this into my terminal helped :)

sudo pmset -a disablesleep 0
sudo pmset -a sleep 5
sudo pmset -a lidwake 0
sudo killall -9 powerd
sleep 3
sudo pmset sleepnow

Same issue here. Noticed it as soon as I upgraded. Turned off all the auto sleep options so it never went to sleep, which obviously avoided — but didn’t resolve — the issue. Then last night, force of habit put it into sleep mode instead of shutting down and now can’t wake it again. So annoying. Seems really odd that the only solution offered is to reinstall the OS. There have already been two OS26 updates I think — why has this not already been addressed?

Happening to me. Even reinstalled OS, checked login items, went through troubleshooting with Apple Support. Still happening sometimes, and I get a black screen with visible cursor upon startup.

I’m on an M1 Mac mini (2020). The computer is definitely awake; it’s just not sending a signal to the monitor.

I’ve never had this many big problems after an upgrade.

Sadly, this is not accurate... I thought that the problem had gone away after the re-installation... but it didn't. It is back again!

I now tried the sudo commands suggested by s4intdavid... let's see what happens... I will report back in a few days!

Overall, I am really frustrated that we are not getting a proper fix from Apple!

I had issue with the last OS that it would sometime take 3-4 tries to put my iMac to sleep before it would stick. Now I just have to turn it off if I don't want the screen shining all night. Hate to say it but this new OS sucks, I have so many issues of things not working correctly or not working at all, and it's hit or miss. Copy and paste only works about half the time on half the apps. Text to speech is equally only half functional and no longer a right click option. And it's even worse on my iPhone. They don't fix the obvious flaws and only seem to hobble what was working.

Apple needs to stop focusing on having a new OS every year just to change the look and disrupt the functionality. It's like billionaires trying to solve the shopping experience of blue collar workers - they have lost touch of what made the company so great. I may switch to android because if I am going to be this frustrated I should have a better reason than wishing I had not upgraded the operating system.

30 years of using Apple and I may be done.
