Laggy cursor on MacBook Air M4 trackpad after macOS Tahoe update

Hey, guys. New Mac user here.

Got me a MacBook Air M4 and I've been reading around the internet that Macbook's trackpads are quite something, and they are. The gestures alone make 'em amazing. I just have this slight issue where the cursor seems a bit laggy. Might be related to acceleration or something like that. I've been fiddling with the settings under the Trackpad section, but if I go higher it's just too much and if I leave it on relatively low it's an absolute nightmare to traverse through the screen. It seems like there's a slight delay in between moving the cursor and the actual physical motion I input.

Is there any app/solution I could try to somehow fix this issue? It seems to have gotten worse since macOS Tahoe.

I don't wanna connect an external mouse to my laptop mostly because I work on the go, so I wanna keep it light and relatively care-free.

Thank you, folks! So very happy to finally join the Mac family!

Welcome!

My M4 Pro Macbook Pro is on Tahoe and has no issues with its trackpad. Let's go through the basics:

— If you restart the computer, does the lagginess go away?

— Try a "SMC' reset. See: Reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support and use the instruction set labeled, "Mac with Apple Silicon"

— Try going to System Settings > Trackpad and changing the tracking speed to something else, test, then back to your original setting.

— In the same setting, try turning off "force click and haptic feedback." I turned it off on my Macbook Pro not so much because it was bad but rather that I am a klutz. Still, easy enough to check.

— In System Settings > Accessibility, are any of the three options under "Alternative Control Methods" checked. Uncheck them

— Are you perhaps dragging an extra finger when using the trackpad. It's more common that you think. When people use their index finger, there is a natural tendency to curl unused fingers. If one finger does not curl enough...voila! You get an unexpected behavior.

— Have you installed any aftermarket apps than claim to protect, clean, optimize, disinfect, or do the dishes? 99% are useless wallet drainers at best and interfere with the Macs built-in protections.

If those sugestions do not find improvement, I strongly recommend an Apple Store Genius Bar visit to see if they can reproduce the issue.Sometimes, unexpected trackpad or keyboard behavior can be caused by a swelling battery. That's super- rare in a computer as new as yours, but easy enough to check.
