iPadOS 18.7.1 battery health setting not working on M4 iPad

as of latest upgrade today, battery health setting to 80% no longer works. Goes straight to 100%. M4 iPad, about four months old.

I do not want to upgrade to 26. It's on my phone and I hate absolutely everything about it. It is a visual and functional mess. I have NEVER had this reaction to an OS upgrade before, you this is really a gross mistake, a regression to weird bubble shapes and pointless curved windows and border drawing. I know I will have to eventually but I am trying to keep it from metastasizing onto my iPad for the time being.

So: is 18.7.1 going to fix this battery bug?

Starting with your iPhone and dislike of the new Liquid Glass appearance...

Try these device settings:

Settings > Accessibility >

  • Display & Text Size > Reduce Transparency - set to ON
  • Motion > Reduce Motion - set to ON

Also consider editing your selected Lock Screen Wallpaper. For the clock Font & Colour, select Solid - not Glass - and a suitable colour (for a dark background, choosing white may offer best clarity):

Additional information concerning customisation of your Lock Screen can be found within the often overlooked iPhone User Guide:

Combined, these settings should significantly tone-down the Liquid Glass appearance that you don't like and/or have difficulty reading - essentially restoring most of the iPadOS 18.x appearance and visual behaviour with which you are accustomed. The same treatment can be applied to your iPad when (if) you subsequently update to the new version of iPadOS.

Returning to your Battery Health issue, I don't have access to an iPad Pro M4 running iPadOS 18.7.1 with which to verify your described problem. That said, I am not aware of any similar reports with iPadOS 26.0.1.
