MacBook Pro 2019 lagging after macOS Tahoe update

Edit: I updated all the apps and now my Mac is back to normal speed.

Did you also have one of the apps identified here that was using a Private Framework not designed for Developers and causing excessive heat and battery drain? After the developer updated the apps, the problem was solved.

same problem on MCP 2019 16gb 1TB... the problem seems to have been solved very little, in part, but not completely with macOS 26.1; however, a slight improvement seems to be obtained, at least as regards the window animations (on mission control and others) and I believe overall (still to be verified better) by going to settings>battery>option and disabling "automatic graphics card switching" so as to always use, I believe, as a priority the Radeon Pro 5500M 4 GB card (in my case) and not allow switching to the UHD Graphics 630 which is certainly slower

The current stable release of Tahoe including bug fixes, security updates is macOS 26.0.1 - I would start there

A SafeBoot Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled temporarily.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

unplug all non-essential peripherals when testing

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

all known to cause issues on the macOS

You do not paint a very big picture of this "lagging"...

The Safeboot was a test..

Test issue in another user (or guest user) account Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support

  This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account. 

I went back to the previous OS. Lost everything (except what’s on my external SSD). Reinstalled all my apps. It’s working fine. I am not a fan of OS26, it uses too many resources. I even have an M4 Mac Mini and reverted that back to the previous OS.

Thanks to the person who suggested this option. Now everything works smoothly without any lag. Although the battery will probably drain faster.

personally I just downgraded to macOS 15 until I hear about no lag - mine's a 64GB RAM with more than 300GB free and that doesn't seem to have been good enough for it (I have no clue). Only downside is I couldn't use my Time Machine which was made on macOS 26🥲

The default Integrated GPU seems to generate less heat (in my case Intel UHD Graphics 630)

which typically is less demanding...

the more demanding graphics is called upon when required , (ex. launch Photos.app etc) the Dedicated GPU

****** off of the issue I've finally downgraded way back to Monterey. Now I feel happy. It works as smooth as new. Battery also runs for around 6hrs even after 6 years. talking of Tahoe, that hoe sucked under 3hr

Sam here, 2019 16" 2.4Ghz i9 with 32GB RAM and the 630 1.5 graphics. Unusable, high cpu usage, high RAM usage, even after fresh reboot & SMC reset. Preview cant open .HEIC files. What a dumpster fire of a release

Thats correct! facing similar issue. lags every time, the notification pane fails to open, touch sensor malfunctions even after SMC reset, CPU usage is abnormally high and battery drains like Usain Bolt
