iPhone storage full: how to delete message attachments w/o losing them?

From what I can determine here, I need to first save each attachment to the photos app in order to avoid losing them forever if i review and delete from my messages app. But my phone storage is full, so I don't think I can save them to the app on my phone. help!

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 18

But according to Apple, iCloud is NOT a storage system, it's merely a synching option. I have plenty of room in my iCloud storage account; that's not the issue. Deleting attachments (photos sent in messages) also removes them from iCloud, again, per Apple. I don't consider synching them to "safeguard" them as Apple says deleting from my device deletes them everywhere. T

Apple have a way of confusing people. It IS storage that syncs to all your devices. Add or delete from one device and it repeats on the others.

si

  1. Buy an adequate size iCloud monthly plan and
  2. Turn on iCloud Photos with Optimise Storage turned on
  3. SAVE any photos in any if your messaging apps to Photos if you want them.
  4. Leave it a day or teo to sync
  5. Delete unwanted messages, and uninstall Whatsapp, Youtube, Insta, Snap, to remove caches and all old messages
  6. Enjoy your new spare phone storage

Well delete or offload other data, so you can save the pictures.

that's not really helpful. I want to remove them from my apple photos app on my device and put them somewhere where they are actually housed, not just a synched copy

You clearly stated in your title iPhone storage is FULL to gain memory back you delete or offload data from your phone. Then when you gain enough memory back, you can save the photo and then delete the attachments.

Pretty straight forward stuff here, if you think outside the box.

No, saving them to Photos as in my other post will leave a small sync copy on the phone but full size master copy on iCloud.
