Locked to owner despite having the cpassword???

  1. went to erase my phone upon seeing that the Apple ID in use was hacked.
  2. I have the correct password, recovery contact with the correct phone number.
  3. While I’m in process of erasing…3rd party upon gaining access had changed my recovery phone number to something ending in 58.
  4. Upon entering my password on the activation screen, it works; however, I’m receiving a pop up that the account is locked due to security issues????
  5. IS THIS A CONFIGURED SETTING AS THE DEVICE WAS MANAGED AS WELL BY FRAUD. I I haven’t seen this before.
  6. HOW CAN YOU RESET WITHOUT A PHONE NUMBER????

Follow the steps here for when the account is locked.

If your Apple Account is locked, not active, or disabled - Apple Support

As it says, in some cases you will not be able to gain access to the account even with the correct password. The link provided there for the locked account takes you to the iforgot website for changing the password and you do not need to have access to the phone number. If you get the message there that the unlock request has been denied, then you would need to create a new account.

If this follows a common pattern, probably with no two factor authentication, and here with a focus on the iPhone rather than on wresting back control of the compromised Apple Account.

This pattern commonly also involves password re-use or an easily-guessed password.

This usually means you have (permanently) lost control of the Apple Account. It’s just not yours.

This means you’ll now need to present proof of ownership of the iPhone sufficient to convince Apple of your ownership to get the phone moved to a new Apple Account, and will want to report the payment cards associated with the account as compromised.

On the new Apple Account, you will want to use a robust password, and you will want two-factor enabled.

● If your account has been disabled for “security reasons” the solution is to reset your password as outlined in this document: If you forgot your Apple Account password - Apple Support

If you find you can’t sign in, reset your password, or receive verification codes, you can request account recovery (read this support article: How to use account recovery when you can’t reset your Apple Account password - Apple Support ) to regain access to your account.
