Battery Drain on iOS 26 and iOS 26.0.1.

Good morning everyone,

I would like to report a VERY SERIOUS problem with the battery and performance.

I have a NEW iPhone 15 with 100% battery capacity and only 22 cycles (which I did myself; when it arrived, it was at 0).

However, after updating to iOS 26 (and even with iOS 26.0.1, the situation remains the same), I continue to have VERY SERIOUS problems with the battery life of my NEW phone.

Today, I was busy all day and did not use my phone from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., yet it still dropped from 90% to 45% WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING. No apps were open, the “Refresh apps in background” option was not enabled, the screen was set to turn off automatically after 30 seconds, and automatic brightness was enabled. So it's definitely not the phone's fault because it's BRAND NEW with a 100% ORIGINAL battery, nor is it the settings because it was in PERMANENT POWER SAVING mode. So the fault lies solely with iOS. There are no excuses.

I am writing this message to urge Apple to resolve this issue as soon as possible because, from what I have read on X, I am not the only one.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thank you very much and have a good day.

Had the same issue on my iphone 16 after upgrading to 26.0.1.

i did these things and battery life seems to be normal. Following are the things i did.

  1. update all the apps manually and do a hard reset by pressing volume up, release, volume down, release & finally hold power button until you see the apple logo. This will force your iphone to restart.
  2. turn on reduce motion from setting. This will disable lockscreen 3d image feature. But maybe this helped to reduce my battery draining. (accessibility—> motion)
  3. turn on the prefer cross-fade transitions(accessibility—> motion). This will disable modern transitions and new glass effect.

somehow these things prevented my rapid battery draining issue.

also please note that for first 2-3 days there are some background processes running to indexing after the update. So maybe that will also take a huge battery power for that process better to give 2-3 days and then try these methods. All or one will help you.

Sorry you are dealing with this. iOS 26 absolutely destroyed my cell phone and Apple Watch battery life.

both products just over a year old not even paid off and the battery is horrendous on both

i know I know it’s a ME problem. With 2,000$ worth of Apple products I should have to turn off every single feature just to make it to through the day.

after 13 years with Apple this experience has really shown me that it’s time to switch

once these devices are paid off it’s a Samsung phone and a garmin watch hands down

apple is not what it used to be

Hello~ I don’t have the ability here to censor anything. I am a forum member just like you are. If you are having your posts edited then likely there’s a good reason for it. I do however have a tip for you…discussion of moderation isn’t allowed here. This is Apple’s site so their rules apply. How do you know that you didn’t offend someone?

I’m having the same issue, my iPhone 16 pro max had 100 percent battery capacity hold, and now it dropped to 95 since the update, and I literally have to charge my phone every day now instead of every other day. It was 96 percent capacity last week and it’s 95 now. This sucks because this phone battery is getting bad faster than my iPhone 11. We should at least get battery replacements for the price we pay.

I really don’t get it. I never ever charge any of my iphones overnight. Never. I’m still keeping my 13 Pro Max, battery health is 94% (original), I usually plug it when it reaches 30%, then charge up to 80 / 85%, and, every other month, I let it charge till 100%.

Never charged it overnight - and, since day 1, when I go to bed around 1 AM, let’s say the battery is 72%, when I wake up around 5:30AM it is still at 72%. Never missed a beat. And now, aproaching day 1460 (4 years), it’s still behaves the same way.

Oh, BTW, same with my Macs.-L)

Won’t talk about MBA M3 (16GB and 1TB) since it’s new (less than a year).

But I still cherish a dear beloved MBP mid 2012 - 87% battery health (O-R-I-G-I-N-A-L), which is the last model with a DVD drive and upgradable - now with 16GB and 1TB as well.

Maybe I’m lucky, and certainly I’m not an expert in tech as most of you guys, but apparently I’m doing something the right way (hope it holds…)

And, finally, didn’t have the “courage” yet to update my devices to neither IOS26, nor MacOs26, nor iPadOS 26.

Waiting a bit more to get things more stable.

Just wanted to share some thoughts with y’all.

Cheers.

The same problem is on my 15pro , ever since the update my phone does within 4hours whether I use it or not. If I leave it overnight with 80% battery I wake up in the morning to a battery dead phone. I have to charge my phone 4-5 times a day. Currently I've just switched it off and switched to an Android which I last charged 100% over 24hrs ago still it is on 17%. Can anybody help me with this issue. I do not use it at all . Just for calls I have deleted meta apps due to it not being optimised for iOS 26 ... Yet I am facing ridiculous battery drain. Home and lock screen is the battery drainer

Same issues for me as well, battery drains very fast, i’m really missing os18 i really don’t like 26 becuse of its performance. i feel like to move android. cant tolerate the battery issue

You might want to review the Android/Samsung forums before making a move to Android. There are similar posts here about battery draining after they had received an update, and funny enough some even say they are going to move to Apple.

Nobody knows what very fast means in your context because there has been no information provided. We also have no idea what you have tried that has been suggested here, so it is entirely possible you will have to wait for the next update to see what happens.

It is not that Apple does not support users with a previous version of iOS, it is that there is no supported way to go back to a previous version. The same is true for Android devices. All shipping releases of iOS are still supported and I still receive updates even for a device running iOS 16.

We have no idea what your conversation with Apple entailed, so do not know if that had you perform a Factory Reset with a computer or if they performed remote diagnostics. I have seen no reports of not being able to drag and drop app on the Home Screen as being a bug in iOS 26.0.1.

EDIT: I just checked I’m still on v18… So this might not be a version 26 issue

Maybe a different change?

Hope they fix this glitch

didn’t know about it until today

I charge my phone to 85% every day and always have enough to get through the whole day

Today it was fully charged like always, went shopping and checked my shopping list a few times & the stores app(do this many times a week)

When getting in my car I noticed phone felt hot, but put on wireless charger for 10 minute drive, stopped at my parents, pulled phone out of my pocket to show something to mom, and noticed phone was only at 16% 🤷

Then drove 5 minutes home, pulled out phone and was at 1% , looked at “Battery” in settings and didn’t notice anything odd, Safari used most power, then it shut down

I can’t have my phone dying in less than 5 hours!

was going to buy the new 17Pro since going on a trip in a few weeks, but not if it has these problems!

After i updated to 26 what started as a battery that seemed to die very quick has now turned into multiple times today my phone has been over 50% and has froze, shutoff, turned back on, and only has 10% left. Please make it make sense. Before this i could watch my battery countdown like a timef when it got to 15%. Ive had the update plenty long enough for it to have “merged” or whatever youd like to call it with everything on my phone. I guess their ways to get you to buy a new phone worked. Loved my 13 pro till this

And what is your Battery Health at Settings > Battery > Battery Health > Maximum Capacity? If it is below 80%, it is time for a new one. It was only designed to last 500 charge cycles and if that is an original battery on an iPhone 13, then you are likely overdue. The "merge" you refer to is actually the background indexing of files and photo optimization for object detection, but that only takes about a week. If your Battery Health is below 80%, it makes no difference if that has completed or not, your battery would still need to be replaced by Apple.
