Battery Drain on iOS 26 and iOS 26.0.1.

Good morning everyone,

I would like to report a VERY SERIOUS problem with the battery and performance.

I have a NEW iPhone 15 with 100% battery capacity and only 22 cycles (which I did myself; when it arrived, it was at 0).

However, after updating to iOS 26 (and even with iOS 26.0.1, the situation remains the same), I continue to have VERY SERIOUS problems with the battery life of my NEW phone.

Today, I was busy all day and did not use my phone from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., yet it still dropped from 90% to 45% WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING. No apps were open, the “Refresh apps in background” option was not enabled, the screen was set to turn off automatically after 30 seconds, and automatic brightness was enabled. So it's definitely not the phone's fault because it's BRAND NEW with a 100% ORIGINAL battery, nor is it the settings because it was in PERMANENT POWER SAVING mode. So the fault lies solely with iOS. There are no excuses.

I am writing this message to urge Apple to resolve this issue as soon as possible because, from what I have read on X, I am not the only one.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thank you very much and have a good day.

Had the same issue on my iphone 16 after upgrading to 26.0.1.

i did these things and battery life seems to be normal. Following are the things i did.

  1. update all the apps manually and do a hard reset by pressing volume up, release, volume down, release & finally hold power button until you see the apple logo. This will force your iphone to restart.
  2. turn on reduce motion from setting. This will disable lockscreen 3d image feature. But maybe this helped to reduce my battery draining. (accessibility—> motion)
  3. turn on the prefer cross-fade transitions(accessibility—> motion). This will disable modern transitions and new glass effect.

somehow these things prevented my rapid battery draining issue.

also please note that for first 2-3 days there are some background processes running to indexing after the update. So maybe that will also take a huge battery power for that process better to give 2-3 days and then try these methods. All or one will help you.

are tons of posts about the battery issue. I have had Apple devices for so long now - I understand the charging behavior. THINGS ON APPLE'S SIDE OF THE EQUATION HAVE CHANGED.

None of the posts here on this page have anything to do with the Charge Limit issue you are reporting. Even using the Search option on this Support Site does not show anyone else with that issue where it has not been resolved by letting it charge to 100% like it is supposed to and then it returns to the Charge Limit.

You can say things have changed on Apple's side that affected the charge limit, but it only appears to be the case on your devices, which would not be true if it was a bug in the OS. How you want to proceed is up to you and have been given many options.

Here is what I know: the problems with battery drain and the charge limit started after upgrading to iOS 26. The fact that the problem is happening on both my phone and my iPad is quite strange. Your point of view and your attitude are quite clear. I am merely sharing my experience with my devices and the current iOS. I have been to the Apple Store numerous times. I have called Apple. I resorted to this support community when I couldn’t get help from the professionals, but this has been counterproductive too.

Please be aware that we're not trying to dismiss your issue; rather most users, including the senior level posters here, simply do not experience this issue, myself included.

That means there is something unique to your combination of apps and the way they interact with iOS that is causing this, which is made even more likely by the fact you experience this on both your iPad and iPhone; it's very likely the same misbehaving app is present on both causing the battery draw.

The key is until we can figure out which app that is and its vendor can fix it, this problem is likely to continue without mitigation.

I know you are talking about 2 completely different issues and what you have posted here is unique to the Charge Limit issue that you are experiencing on 2 of your devices that no one else in this post has experienced. There is also no other post found using the Search option on the top of this screen that has found the same to be true.

I know you are familiar with how troubleshooting works and making a claim that your unique Charge Limit issue is that same as the Battery draining issue reported here is not only unfair to the users looking for a solution to their problem by hijacking a post involving battery draining on iOS 26.0.1, it is not likely going to resolve your problem either.

I have recommended you create your own new post describing the specific issue you are experiencing, so you will get the attention of others that are not following a 2+ month old thread about an issue that has nothing to do with yours. If there happens to be another user that experiences the same thing as you, then they will be able to find your post and will also be able to chime in.

I have also recommended to let your devices charge all night to see if they return to the Charge Limit as others have found to be the case. Instead of following up with either recommendation, here we are doing the same thing over again and expecting a different result.

I am currently (again) allowing the phone to charge to 100%, although I took a look at the screen and saw the message "14 min to 80%" followed by "2 min to 80%" and now it's charging past 80% on its way to 100. Again. I do think there's a possibility this is related to other issues with the battery performance and how the iOS interacts with the battery. Time will tell.

Given the fact that so much time has passed and the root cause still has not been identified yet - please tell me what you think about this action plan:

1) Perform clean install of iOS while iPhone is connected with cable to macOS.

2) Once installation is completed give it a week or at least 3-4 days till indexation is completed.

3) Go to the Setting and customize phone according to your preference. Afterwards test if battery performance has not changed (in case if issue is related to any specific setting that was changed).

4)Use phone for another week without installing any app.

5) If issue is not reproduced start adding 1-2 apps form AppStore and test for few days if battery performance has not decreased. Start with the one which is suspected the most (Meta apps).

6) Repeat 5 till issue is reproduced.
