Tahoe not recognizing External Hard Drives that still work fine on Sequoia

Ok, that means the option you're looking for is not there because it's not supposed to be there.

Not sure which of these you fit into, but perhaps you may want to start your own thread as deconvoluting this 3-pager is perhaps not the most efficient use of time.

I'm having similar but different issues: I lost one 6tb external drive due to it not mounting, then impatience and Disk Utility failing to solve the issue. Now, while trying to recover and restore data, I'm realizing that my external drives and DVD burner are all having issues. DVD mysteriously loses power during use; my external SSD kept mounting then ejecting, mounting, ejecting in a loop. This is an M1 mini running Tahoe 26.3.

Thank you guys for the solution cured the issue after looking at this for two weeks. Did not think of the Eset link with the problem brilliant !

I think Eset is a great security solution just got to remember how powerful these virus screeners can be.

16” MacBook Pro M5 Tahoe 26.4.1 (25E253) trying to connect a LaCie 2big Dock. Disk utility and the lacie raid manager see the connected dock and confirm there is no issue with partition or drives. Can't mount the drive anymore. Was mounted up until recently. Changed my machine to allow accessories to connect. As I was getting the ask each time I reattached. Got an error 50 at one point. Checked partition again and still nothing wrong with it.

Raid 1 on my dock with two drives. Still can't get it to mount. Journaled and no other computer in the house to attach it to to check. Hope I can get it back online, as it was bought a few months ago to store files for a dead relative that I wanted raid protection for. Convinced the data is still there, but I cant access it.

trying to download photos from iPhone 15 pro to get space for more. Wanted to go from phone to T9 hard drive direct. it was plugged in to Mac OS Tahoe. so I upplugged it and got "Disk Not Ejected Properly" message in upper rt. hand corner on Mac. So I plugged it back in and now can't find it on screen; Still get the not ejected properly message.

Tahoe not recognizing External Hard Drives. Disk Utility found it and First Aid completed just fine. But the WD Element External hard Drive does not show up on the sidebar even though setting is correct. cannot access the hard drive. No Apple technician responded here. Sucks!

How do I restart in safe mode? I am having the same problem and do not want to lose my images that are on the drive.

Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

If it's perhaps Fusion drive setup.... you are out of luck ;(

Your suggestion for the system settings worked for me. My external SSD was not working until I tried what you suggested. Thank you so much.

Weird. I have a Samsung T7 and a T9 connect to my Mac's and both are working.

And I have 8 of them ranging from 1 TB to 4 TB, all of which work fine with my Mac running Tahoe.

This is an Apple Forum, is it not? What a nonsensically rude response.

and ex-fat disks are showing up ok
