ipad and iphone don't ariplay when screen recording is on (macOS Tahoe)

Hi everyone,

I can't mirror my iphone and ipad on macOS when a screenrecording app on mac is recording, I mean ipad and iphone do get connected to mac but there is a black screen on mac. This sometimes happens even when the screen recording app is just on and not recording.

I always use OBS screen recording app on my mac while mirroring my ipad and it was working just fine up until I updated my mac to macOS Tahoe 26.0. I was hoping the issue would get fixed in 26.0.1 update but it wasn't.

I have tried other screen recording apps (even apple's built in screen recorder, quick time player) and when the app is working, the screen goes black. my all my devices are updated to the latest version. ipad air (5th gen) macbook air M2, iphone 13 pro.

I have tried force restarting, safe mode, using another user account. None of them worked.

For 3rd party apps, you'll need to contact the developer about a Tahoe-compatible update. Screen recording works fine for me with the macOS tools (Command-Shift-5, which is just another way to access the Screen Recording feature used by QuickTime Player > New Screen Recording).

Note that if you're viewing streaming content on a device, macOS will respect the DRM settings which often means the content is blacked out (you see the same thing, for example, when taking a screenshot or screen recording of a DVD playing in DVD Player on macOS, a black window instead of the content you can see on the display).

Apologies, I thought you were referring to the iPhone Mirroring app, which works fine during a screen recording.

Like you, when I start a screen recording then go to Screen Mirroring on my iPhone and select the Mac as the output, the screen on the Mac goes black during the recording. This appears to be a bug in macOS Tahoe, since it works fine in macOS Sequoia.
