My Microsoft Email Account now refuses to connect to my Apple Mail app on my New Macbook Air, with Taho 26.0.1

I have spent a number of hours now trying to get my laptop to connect to my @hotmail.co.uk account for email. I have used both the Exchange and the non-descript email option. I have used what they supplied with information and was instructed to try the

  • Incoming: outlook.office365.com
  • Outgoing: smtp.office365.com

route as well. deleted the account to start over. Ive changed passwords, 2F authentication, authentication app password, etc etc...

and still its telling me that my account name or password cant be verified. i know im putting in the right info over and over again. Some have said give up they wont work together? Just use the Outlook app- is this the only solution? or or is there another hidden way to make apple and microsoft play nicely so I can just get my email in one place?

I resolved my issue. What I experienced and found as mentioned above may be true but depends on the settings for the outlook.com security set for the account. I turned off everything on my account except a simple password. Then I was able to set up outlook.com using the Exchange option.

iOS and macOS Tahoe are different. They don't always line up when you are trying to use a feature in one of them and try to use the same feature in the other.

Like in Mail on the iOS platform, you can use a Outlook email address in Mail but at present on the Mac there isn't an option for it unless you try using the "Add Another Account" option

Try the instruction below. There is no guarantee that it will work.

  • Click the '+' button to add a new account.
  • Choose 'Other Mail Account...' and click 'Continue.'
  • Enter your email address and name, then click 'Continue.'
  • Select 'IMAP' or 'Exchange' based on your Outlook account type.
  • For Exchange, choose 'Microsoft Exchange' and enter your email and password.
  • For IMAP, use incoming server: outlook.office365.com and outgoing server: smtp.office365.com.
  • Click 'Sign In' or 'Continue' to authenticate your account.
  • If connection issues arise, remove and re-add your Outlook account.
  • Use the automatic setup feature by selecting 'Microsoft
  • Exchange' and entering your email.
  • Ensure correct email address and password to avoid setup problems.
  • Consider using the Outlook app for Mac if issues persist.

From what I have experienced and from my research, a Microsoft 365 Subscription is required. Free for one month. Basically it appears that free/personal outlook.com email is not supported in Mac Mail on Sequoia and Tahoe. The "free" Outlook app requires a MS 365 Subscription and the only way to access the outlook.com email is in a browser at outlook.live.com. If you have another solution or links correcting any of this, I am certainly interested.

Same issue here. My Mail on my MacBook Pro kept losing sync with my Exchange (actually MSN) mail account. For a while I could achieve a temporary solution by deleting and re-adding the Exchange account, but the last time I did that I could not add Exchange back again. It keeps reporting an authentication failure, although my credentials are absolutely correct. I CAN connect with Mail on my iPhone. The MacBook is on Tahoe 26.0.1, FWIW.

We really need a solution here, and I hope Apple can come up with one fast.

My Exchange connection was able to be restored Oct. 7 at about 3:30 EST - that is, I could add the Exchange Internet account - and since then it has been spotty, losing synch every few minutes. I am afraid to delete the account again, because of the trouble I had for several days restoring it, but I am inclined to suspect that there is something amiss on the Microsoft end of things.
