Welcome!
I had to rely on a iPad for all my viewing a few years back when bedridden after orthopedic surgery and unable to use the stairs to access our regular TV. A standard iPad with a 9.7-inch screen served remarkably well. I used earbuds for better sound reproduction.
For streaming viewing it helps to have an available charger outlet nearby. Videos use more battery capacity than other activities, so I watch them with the iPad powered from the charger. My wife and I rigged an external cable before surgery to avoid stretching the Apple charging cable.
A couple of potential issues here:
— Only refurbished devices purchased directly from Apple online are true refurbs. I never seen an Applre retail store with refurbs, ANY other source cannot not trusted. One person here bought a "certified refurbisheed" iMac from an auction site and it arrived non-functional and with the screen held in place only by duct tape. Not Apple.
— Apple refurbs may not be $150. Used iPads are a big risk. See this:
The All Too Common SAD Reality of Buying … - Apple Community
I wish I could count how many disheartening posts we've seen here from people bought used iPads only to find they could not use them.
What may be the better path is an armored case. My very adventuresome 7-year old grandson uses our daughter's Gen9 iPad in an armored case a lot and has yet to damage it.
Apple refurbs have a new battery and new outer shell. We've bought serveral and all are still serving. Online Apple refurbs are not available in every country.
To see if you have refurb access, scroll to the bottom of your country's/region's Apple home page. In the small grey links at the very bottom, under "Apple Store," a link to the refurb page that will show IF factory refurbs are available where you are:

The US Apple page for refurbed reguular iPads is this: Refurbished iPad - iPad - Apple
Items available can change hourly as these are sold on a stock-on-hand basis, so check often. Today the cheapest plain iPads are US$399 but they have extended internal storage. Check often until you find one closer to your price goal.
