Komoot and other 3rd party cycling apps and Apple Watch

Why does Apple continue to restrict third-party apps like Komoot from rendering full-featured maps on the Apple Watch for cycling? This limitation might be understandable if Apple Maps offered robust support for cycling—particularly gravel or mountain biking—but unfortunately, they fall significantly short in this area.

If Apple is unable or unwilling to provide a high-quality, purpose-built cycling experience, it should enable third-party developers to fill that gap. Currently, these apps are limited to basic turn-by-turn prompts, which is a stark contrast to the rich, interactive map experiences available on Garmin or Samsung watches.

Instead of closing off access, Apple should prioritize user choice and functionality by allowing developers to deliver fully-featured, real-time map experiences on the Apple Watch. Otherwise, the platform risks falling behind competitors in an area where versatility and detail are essential.
