How can I find my iPad's configuration by serial number?

I have a serial number and want to determine which hardware it is. Where can I search by serial number and see the config.

The iPad serial number does not, of itself, provide any information about the model and device configuration. The serial number is simply a unique device identifier.


By contrast, the model number provides significantly more information:

Settings > General > About > Model Number - tap to expose the "A" number


This number can be fed into a web-search - the results of which will provide much more information.


Apple also has provides a device lookup:
