Tahoe 26 Game Overlay Not Working

When I open my games to full screen (normally minecraft, but this issue happens with my steam games too) I get the little notification in the corner of the screen that says game mode: on and press command + esc to open game overlay. However, it will not open when I press those keys. I saw on Apple's website you can also press the little rocket on the menu bar to open the overlay, but when I click the rocket, it just opens the apple games app.

I'm tired of game mode putting my devices on Do Not Disturb so I want to get into the game mode settings and the overlay appears to be the only way to reach the settings, but I can't reach the overlay.

Is anyone else having this problem? Is there any way to fix it?

From what I can tell, Game Mode and Game Overlay are not the same thing. Game Mode manages the Mac's resources to prioritize the game, and works in Macs running Sonoma and Sequoia as well as Tahoe.

Use Game Mode on Mac - Apple Support

Game Overlay is a new feature of Tahoe, and I suspect it may only work in the new Games app. Apple describes it as:

Game Overlay

With a simple click, adjust settings,

connect with friends, and check out

the latest updates from the Games app,

all without leaving your game.
