Authentication Failure for Mail on MacBook Air

When I go into mail to add account, I am getting an error message. "Authentication Failed. Failed to authenticate, please try again later." This only appears when I select the Microsoft Exchange option. The error appears after entering @outlook.com email address before reaching the password stage.


Has anyone else run into this issue or know a workaround ?

MacBook Air 15″, macOS 26.0
