Favorites not appearing after adding contacts on iPhone 17

Here’s what I’ve done: From the person’s contact screen scroll to “add to favorites”, then choose “call” then “phone” then click on the number that comes up. But then nothing happens. It’s my understanding that I should now have the option to choose from favorites at the bottom the screen from the phone app, but I only have calls, contacts, keypad, and search. Am I missing a step or looking the wrong place? I’m new to iPhone and have the 17.
