iPhone 17 Pro Max Screen totally dim in morning

I place my iPhone 17 Pro Max on its side in an upright charger each night so it can go into nightstand mode. Each morning when I wake and take the phone off the charger and wake the phone the screen is totally dim. When I open the control panel the brightness is turned all the way down to 0. I have checked every setting possible and have turned off Auto-Brightness, true tone, night shift, and any feature that I thought could cause this. I did leave on the new feature "Always on Display". The phone is not hot in the morning and the battery is fully charged. No matter what I have tried my screen brightness is all the way down each morning until I manually turn it back up.
