Framerates capped at 120fps after updating to macOS Tahoe

I was having more than 200 fps in Minecraft from my 2021 Macbook M1 Pro, but after updating to macOS Tahoe I'm now having 120 fps. Disabled v-sync, enabled unlimited framerates doesn't work. My external monitor even have 180 hz (connected via thunderbolt not HDMI). Is this a bug and will it get fix soon?

I think you're not getting the point of higher FPS rates. It's not about refresh rates, it's about performance. I am getting the same issue and I see that macOS Tahoe significantly downgraded its gaming performance. Playing above 120 Hz wasn't an issue to me prior to the update of macOS Tahoe. But now it is because I am getting lag spikes and so forth in playing my games. Higher FPS is beneficial than just capping them at 120 Hz.

I saw some of your comments from the Apple Community with this same issue. I do not know if you still understand what's going on with this problem, but I hope you understand it now. Again, it's not about refresh rates. It's about having good performance.

Humans don’t literally see in frames per second, but our visual system has a temporal resolution — the speed at which we can detect changes in motion or flicker. You’re correct that if your monitor only has a 100 Hz refresh rate but your frame rate is above 200 fps, you won’t actually see the full 200 fps. The extra frames are simply discarded or blended.

However, in gaming, higher frame rates can reduce input delay (e.g. 300 fps = 3.3 ms; 600 fps = 1.6 ms), which is very important for games that require fast reaction times, like Counter-Strike or Valorant. For games like Minecraft, though, the difference is hardly noticeable.

I’m only asking because even though I’m using a 180 Hz monitor, my frame rate is still limited to 120 fps. I know we don’t need very high frame rates for Minecraft, but I’m curious about what causes this frame rate limit in macOS Tahoe.
