How to update older Macbook Pro to Mojave 10.14

Trying to update a Macbook Pro 2016 running on High Sierra. Could only download the installer for 10.14.6 version which then tells me that I need the installer for 10.14 first. Where do I find this? And will it even be possible for my laptop to upgrade at this point?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.13

Neither Mojave or Monterey is among the "most recent three" that vendors such as Microsoft and Adobe support; those are now (Sonoma, Sequoia, Tahoe).

However, if you do not have 32-bit applications that you need or want to keep using, you may want to upgrade that MacBook Pro to Monterey. Why?

  • Although Monterey can't run the latest versions of Safari, it can run newer versions than High Sierra can.
  • Monterey is recent enough to run the current versions of just about all major third-party browsers (Firefox, Brave, Opera, Microsoft Edge, Chrome).
  • Monterey is also recent enough to run the current version of the LibreOffice office suite.
