Removing find my phone on erased phone

I purchased a new iPhone 17, set it up and erased all contents from my old phone. I am unable to remove it from "Find My" and get the message: erase pending, will be removed November 10 (that was yesterday). I tried removing the device from my apple account, which seemed to work. But cannot remove from my account. On the old phone when I tap the screen a message appears that says: The location of this phone can be seen by its owner (me). I'm not sure how to proceed.
