How to change notification sound on per-app basis?

The iPhone User Guide for iOS 26 says I can change the notification sound on a per-app basis. But I can’t. As you can see in the attached screenshot, all I have in the relevant settings screen is a toggle. I’m on an iPhone 13 mini running iOS 26.0.1. What's up?

As KiltedTim correctly suggests, you can only change the notifications sound IF the App Developer let's you choose a different sound. Some do. Many don't.

That functionality has to be coded into the individual apps by the developers.
