iPhone 4 no contract at&t locked?

I believe any iPhone sold in the US with or without a contract is locked to AT&T.

All iphones sold in the US are carrier locked to AT&T with no way to officially unlock them, as AT&T does not offer unlocking for the iphone. Only AT&T can unlock your iphone, not Apple, but AT&T does not offer unlocking for anyone for any reason. Makes no difference whether you purchased with or without a two year commitment, the phone is locked to AT&T.

All the phones sold in the US are locked to AT&T and cannot be officially unlocked.

Can you still get the full refund from Apple if you weren't happy with the phone for whatever reason ? If so buy the phone in Belgium, all phones sold in Belgium and Italy are unlocked by law.

AFAIK AT&T has never unlocked an iphone for anyone for any reason. You can certainly contact AT&T(dial 611 from your phone).

Even if you contact them and discuss your problem, AT&T and Apple will not unlock your iphone regardless of what situation you have. It will still stay locked to AT&T Period.

Can i ask the other way... i have an iphone 4 on 02. I have used it in europe and picks up other carriers and in uk it will show orange, vodafone etc when 02 signal is out of range (although wont connect obviously) i am going to USA soon, can i buy an AT&T prepaid micro sim and use it in my phone ?

I don't think AT&T does a prepaid for the iphone 4, but you can do a month to month plan with no contract required.

An AT&T sim won't work, your phone is sim locked to O2 but they obviously have agreements where if one of their networks coverage is not great in an area you can effectively "roam" on another carries network for no extra chrage. Your still using your O2 sim though
