It is common for crooked sellers to jailbreak stolen phones in such a way as to make them look normal snd you can "sign in" but the first update or restore brings out the original owner's credentials. You have been duped.

You have a device that is activation locked. There lies the problem. He will have to recover his Apple ID and password and remove the device from Find my...

If they are unable to remove the phone from Find my.., one option (assuming you no longer need/want the phone) is to physically destroy it. That's one way of "erasing" your data.

You need to find a relative or friend with a computer. You can also contact Apple Support. If you’re in the US, please call  1-800-MY-APPLE, or outside the US, consult the support articles below. In Canada, call 1-800-263-3394.

I did the manual process (phone) perfectly. The data just doesn't goo away. It keeps staying. Currently i don't have a pc to try the restore process. What to do?

It almost always works, see the link from Jeff, or

  1. I advise turning off Stolen Device Protection first in Settings, TouchID & Passcode.
  2. Go to the Settings app  on your iPhone.
  3. Tap General, then tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  4. Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
  5. If asked, enter your iPhone passcode or Apple Account password.
  6. Tap Continue to confirm.
  7. If you have an eSIM, you can choose to erase your eSIM or keep it. If you erase your eSIM, you need to contact your carrier to reactivate your cellular plan.

This always works if you follow the instructions.

Well, i did it with a computer. And my device is successfully got locked by it's previous owner (I brought it from a guy). I tried to contact with him. And he said that he can't remember his apple id nor the password. After trying with the last passcode several times, the passcode option got disabled too. The last apple id I've signed in on that device is not eligible for activating the device (they asks for the one which was used to set the device up once). Im helpless now.
