iphone SE iOS 18.6.2 odd behavior deleting recent calls from list

iPhone SE iOS 18.6.2 when deleting calls from recents, choose select. Tap minus sign for a call, tap trash icon and it works. Tap minus sign for another call, tap trash icon and the call is still there. Tap/trash a second time and the call is deleted. Another call, delete works. Next call (not next in order) again, must delete twice. And so on.
